Nifty Nine
Nine. Nine, nine, nine...oh my.
It's happened again. God must have forgotten that pause button to freeze our children in a moment and then hit play when we are ready to take in the rapid pace of growth once more. HS has heard me say, "where is your pause button" for so many years, that now when he sees me tear up over a big milestone, he'll try to comfort me by saying, "you know mom...I have to grow up. That's why there is no pause button. Sorry."
HH keeps telling me I'm going to go gray and have high blood pressure if I keep dwelling on how quickly our kids are growing, but I don't care.
They are growing.
I will hit the panic button.
Even if it just a rapid strike, a full fledged lean on the button, or hit like I'm writing morse code.
I will color the grey if I need.
But I will not stop fretting that time is racing and I don't always think that I am taking it all in and processing the moments. I don't want to forget them. I don't want to be that little old lady in the rocking chair who can't conjur up the days when her children were small. (God please allow me to keep my wits as I age).
I am only grateful that HS now has at least stopped wishing he were one year older. At least for now. Because he's proud to be nine.

| HS celebrating his 9th birthday in the middle of Kaneohe Bay |
A review of the past year:
~ steps boldy into 3rd grade and the wonderful world of cursive, multiplication, division, and reading.
All things that he loves. Bye, bye printing!
~ achieves 2nd Kyu (brown with two patches) and is a belt away from black.
~ dives into his 2nd year of piano and loves it...especially when he gets to play music from Harry Potter
~ avidly reads...he puts his mum and dad to shame
because if he's not playing, doing homework, practicing piano, or practicing karate...he's reading.
~ enjoys scouting and earns his Bear badge and then eagerly awaits his WEBELOS years.
~ inspires LD to walk directly behind him..as closely as she dares. Just so she can be with her big bro. Her knight in shining armor. For now.
~ keeps us on our toes with his sense of humor and personality.
~ boogie boards, snorkels, paddle boards, and begs to surf.
~ continues to prove his creativity and personality are strong forces within him.
~ looks forward to assisting during the mass as an Altar Server
and
will proclaim shortly after he turns 9
that he
"thinks he's old enough now to help."
