It seems like we blinked and the summer blew through like a crazy tornado and now we are listening to the sound of the school bell ringing.
The arrival of back to school days is always bittersweet for me. Ask my HS and he will tell you that my eyes begin to glisten with fresh tears just talking about the start of school. Iknow I am not a "new" mom to the world of school, but the same jitters arrive in the pit of my stomach every year. Without. Fail.
This year marks new firsts for us all.
* HS enters through the school doors as a middle schooler. Goodbye elementary school...hello land of lockers, middle school dances, and even more challenging academics (oh my...maybe the teacher recert class I need to take should revolve around math!)
* LD says farewell to mommy days and hello to all day kindergarten. She is so excited! She has been watching her big bro from the sidelines and now the wait is over. She gets to walk through the doors to her own classroom with a wonderful teacher waiting to help her begin her educational journey on the right step.
* One school for both. No more dropping one and then racing to drop off the other. No more listening to my poor LD want to be where her big bro is. They are both together. Happy. In the same building. Now my job is even easier volunteering within the school and working as a substitute. Now my job is easier to catch their smiles as they depart Friday mass to head back to their classrooms.
The house is entirely to quiet.
I miss my darlins already.
I've cried a lot today.
Please if you see me, try not to stare at the puffy bags that have formed around my eyes. It's my 1st day, too. I am entitled to the 1st day jitters that accompany trying to watch your kids begin something new.
May God guide us along the pathway to a wonderful school year and may my jitters subside as I see LD and HS flourish in there new school. Friends. Understanding. Growth. Pursuit of academic goals. Belonging.
