Over the past few weeks, LD has really been showcasing her affection for her Big Brother, much to his chagrin. The catchy tune that King Louie croons in his wild dance scene of the "Jungle Book" is being relived...only, instead of crazy King Louie, a toddler diva sings the chorus to her mighty big brother:
Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You'll see it's true
A sister like me
Can learn to be little you!
"Mom...she's staring at me..." HS mumbles from the sofa as he tries to watch his favorite TV show. As I peer over the sofa, yes, their is my LD taking mental notes on the way he is sitting, the expressions he is using, and then as if she's a mirror, she tries them out.
"Uh, mom...she's following behind me..." he stammers as he tries to make his way to the piano. Indeed she is right at his heels, arms floating in time to his swaying arms and feet keeping up the exact same pace as his.
Although too young now and battling against the combined 8 1/2 year old wisdom mixed with toddler-itis prevailing, all I want is for HS and LD to realize one thing as they bicker on the sofa over who has more space..sometimes, my dear children, the best part of life is wrapped up in the sibling sitting next to you, wanting nothing more than to be just like you-ooo-ooo! Relish in the pitter patter of feet walking behind you to catch up to your gait. Laugh over the arguments over who's going to eat the last french fry in the happy meal. Think about how good it feels to hold the hand of someone who dearly loves you and no matter what you do, they will love you anyway. One day, you will appreciate all that the sibling relationship has to offer you.
