Pass the Flame

I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.
~Anna Quindlen

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island.
~Walt Disney

HS has turned another leaf in his reading enjoyment. He has always been a soul who adored being read to when he was little. Then he found the power behind reading for himself. Now, he has discovered the enjoyment of passing his love of reading to his sister. He will read to her while waiting to go on an outing, he'll pick up one of her books to help console her when she is upset, and yes, the one that pulls at each and every one of my heartstrings: he'll read to her before nap time and bedtime.

To say that LD enjoys these precious moments would be an understatement. She looks forward to him snuggling up in the rocking chair and letting the books come to life with his style of reading and the energy he puts into reading to her. She points at the pages, he'll ask her questions. They giggle, they glance at each other smiling. HH and I are merely on the sidelines during these moments. The days that they fuss and fume over trivial things is at hand, the day when HS leaves us for college will be here before we blink.

However, there is another special constant: the time they spend reading together will imprint on their minds as being some of the best moments shared moments of their childhood. Read HS...spin that web around your dear sister and help inspire her own love of books. She'll thank you for that in folds...after she "arranges" your Lego base, of course!
