I don't know what it is about our clan, but birds sure do like us. We've enjoyed our fine feathered friends way up high on the seventh floor of a Japanese apartment building as they perched on our balcony railing and peered in to see what we were watching, while peering through the foliage of a newly purchased hanging plant on our porch in Monterey at eggs delicately laid in a warm and comfey nest, the morning chill of Newport was always warmed by the fight between living cardinal and a reflection in Han's side window just about each morning, and now, the cardinals and finches who call our lanai "home".
I've had to do a double take in the mirror to make sure that Snow White isn't staring back at me. Although it would be great to have her large doe eyes and perfectly styled hair and red shoes, alas, the reflection I get is not remotely close. It must be they sense that we are bird lovers. Of course, we have the bird feeder always out, but typically, the feeder is far from being filled to to the brim. It could be that they know there is a Virginian in the house who hasn't lived within the state borders for well over 15 years, so seeing the appearance of the beautiful cardinal on our lanai, often makes us think of family. Regardless, this snow white adores the visits of her fine feathered friends be it during the first warmth of the day, during the orange glow as the day comes to an end, or during moments on the lanai under the soft light of our lanterns.
