HS's dojo (HH's dojo, too, now that he has joined) begins each New Year with a practice on the beach at 0800 for an hour, followed by a dip in the water. So, bright and early on New Year's day, we headed to downtown Honolulu to the Ala Moana Beach park. There was not a worry that we wouldn't be able to find where the practice was taking place. What a phenomenal site...over 200 students, senpai's, and senseis all out on the sand in a huge circle following the commands given by the lead sensei. I've been thrilled with this dojo's camaraderie and enthusiasm for such a great sport that disciplines not only the body but the mind, too.
HS led the pack in the above picture and snapped his punches and blocks with clarity. I foresee a competition or tournament in his future for this year. Meanwhile, HH wore his white belt with pride and enjoyed not being on the sidelines cheering on HS anymore, but right in the thick of the training alongside of HS.
LD and I watched, cheered, and marveled at the sight and are pumped to witness the learning and growth of our two Karate members during 2009!
